Students began this week their year-long study of the English language, divided into ability-level classes, a system unique to the IFC. Some students began intensive work in introductory lessons, such as their unit “Making Friends”, focused on introductions. Students introduced themselves to the class, mentioning hobbies and interesting facts. It’s not unusual to have hobbies such as “paining” and “drawing” at CAFA, however some of our students are lovers of basketball and one is even a professional tennis player! One student even demonstrated his love of opera through a solo in class.
Other students were ready for more intermediate level vocabulary and grammar through their “Transportation” unit, while the more advanced students wrote short creative stories describing unique experiences. Some of the more memorable titles were “Bloody Tomato Juice” and “Footsteps of a Ghost”. Perhaps the reading of the “Monkey’s Paw” by W.W Jacobs in Adam Woodward’s class rubbed off on them as they prepared their own writings. A few of our students are as creative with words as they are with images.
The CAFA IFC English faculty are looking forward to a new year, with new textbooks, new spaces, new experiences and new students!
