Organic / Moving Images Perspective

We have begun our first major-oriented module here at the IFC. Although we aim for students to work in smaller groups according to their intended field specialty, we also aim to continue to cohesion amongst the various studios. To that end, this first elective module is themed as “Organic”, with each discipline interpreting the theme in ways applicable to their field. This year, we have a total of 6 studios: Fine Art, Spatial Design, Fashion Design, Moving Image and Photography, Graphic Design and 3D Design.

Here we’ll take a peak into the Moving Images studio. This studio began by students out and about on campus engaged in a scavenger hunt for organic objects. Sticks, rocks, leaves and the lik&

101; were brought into the studio and used as object/characters for a quick stop-animation project wh&

101;re students became acquainted with the general idea of making an image move with technology smoothly and use of green screens.

The second short project introduced how sound greatly effects image and movement, and students aligned even organic sounds with drawings to make a two-dimensional animation.

The module is concluding with a final project wh&

101;re students are combining all of their skills into a well-made 1-minute animation that explores the theme of organic in diverse and more abstracted ways. Students this week have been in rapt attention to their drawings and screens, carefully paying attention to how detail is important to their craft. Some make hand-drawn images and others prefer to use tablets, others are focusing on the organic object while others explore how humanity and society relate to nature. There will certainly be some entertaining short animations to watch during our Organic mid-semester exhibition coming up next week.
