Tony Brown Curated “Prix Yishu 8 Chine 2014”
Yishu 8, a house dedicated to the arts, is located in No. 20 (jia), Dong Huangchenggen Bei Jie, Dongcheng district, Beijing (Former Sino-French University). Since it was established in 2009 by Christine Cayol, a French philosopher and writer, Yishu 8 has become the most significant platform for Sino-France cultural communications.
The prominent “Prix Yishu 8 Chine 2014”, sponsored by Foundation Enterprise Hermes, started at the end of 2013. After the works were collected, reviewed, exhibited and awarded, the showing ended successfully last week. “Prix Yishu 8 Chine 2014” was a symbol of the friendly Sino-French relationship. In line with last year, CAFAIFC Academic Director Tony Brown, the tenured professor of Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts, was invited as the curator. 12 works including several from post-graduates of CAFA were put on the shortlist, and after a rigorous appraisal and selection process, 2 CAFA students Li Ying and Peng Yong were honoured. In addition to 20,000 Yuan in prize money, the two winners were provided with studio space in Beijing and Paris as well as opportunities to curate personal exhibitions in Yishu 8.
We wish Yishu 8 continued success as an art mecca and we congratulate Li Ying and Peng Yong on their success and wish them well in the future!
