On October 14, Christopher Whittey, Vice President of Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA) and Robert Borden, Associate Admissions Director of CIA visited the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). CAFA president Fan Di An and Huang Li, Deputy Chief of International Cooperative Education Office, warmly welcomed the delegates. President Fan Di An had a close talk with the guests. Mr. Whittey discussed the ideology, scale and resources of CIA in detail with President Fan.
In addition, the two sides discussed and exchanged ideas about the history
and development of fine art, art and design as well as art history in different social, historical and economical contexts. President Whittey graciously invited President Fan to visit CIA and sincerely looked forward to the continued communication and cooperation with CAFA.
At noon, in the lecture hall of Building 7, President Whittey and Mr. Borden delivered wonderful speeches about the curriculum and teaching-learning resources at CIA. They also showed IFC students the life of 8 IFC graduates who are studying at CIA at present. Some topics such as biomedical art, faculty-student ratio as well as admissions attract the students’ strong interest. When the students asked about the cooperation between CIA and NASA, IFC Director Huang Li earnestly said, “In human civilization, art and design work has become increasingly important because they create a bridge that connects complex scientific knowledge and common people by visualizing the theories to be interpreted”. She also encouraged the students to follow their curiosity, explore the unknown and broaden their horizon.
Afterwards, accompanied by Director Huang Li and IFC Academic Director
Tony Brown, the delegates visited the studios and workshops of IFC. During this time, CIA visiting professor Daniel Cuffaro was also conducting a two-week workshop at IFC. Professor Tony Brown, President Whittey and Professor Cuffaro shared ideas on professional teaching and learning. President Whittey expressed his belief that CIA’s cooperation with CAFA IFC will deepen and he looks forward to a brighter future.
