For hundreds years, humanity has changed different ways to organize society, most of the time was affected by our technological advancements so I wanted to explore this question throughout my theater design project and make audiences question themselves what kind of future we want for our species. At present we are going through enormous technical advancements as AI or genetical manipulation, which bring many philosophical & ethical questions, that are challenging our preconception of world’s future. I approached my exercise by using AI through ChatGPT to combine two famous movies that represent several of those present technical developments and the dangers that they represent for human kind: 1- Blade Runner (Ridley Scott 1982) & 2-Gattaca (Andrew Niccol 1997). Blade Runner shows the conflict with extremely advanced androids that are out of human control and become dangerous, as at present time we could experience with AI technologies. In Gattaca, it is the genetic manipulation of humans what generates two very different social classes. I asked ChatGPT to combine both ideas and also separate the story into 5 scenes. I also used Mid-journey to generate sketches of the potential scenes in the combined story. From there, I chose 3 key locations to develop my Stage Design exercise which is located in thefuture and for that reason a cyberpunk atmosphere will be pursued. I selected the police station questioning room and the bridge where main characters fight with city background, and the final scene of the play happens in the Mirror room.
