RESTART is the project that reflects the world around me through the difficult times and while the whole world is fighting the pandemic. In order to restart my reality, I started to observe myself and the world around me. I have realized that music has a strong power to help and support people. The song that inspired me for my project has a very strong message: ‘The people on the road look all the same, keep overlapping the fantasy daily’. At this moment I decided to choose to design an item that could be worn by either men or women. An item without gender identity. I used a jumpsuit to deconstruct and through experimentation with number of used jumpsuits, I developed a new silhouette.
While the main color of the garments is neutral white that follows the concept of no gender identity, I chose detail colors to be vivid and optimistic like the Vapor-wave style. The retro atmosphere of the past and crocheting become my main ideas that were used for the color and textile development. Staying at home most of the time, I became more sensitive to details and daily life. I was inspired by the plants that my mother grew and developed them into my textile development that later I applied to the slippers and details. I also developed patterns and applied them for the socks. In order to have more possibilities with the final development of the garment, I tried to wear the jumpsuit in different positions and quantities. I used three jumpsuits and deconstruct inspiring of Rei Kawakubo’s design, and then combined them with crocheting items and socks I had made.
